Aviation Teen Start-Up: July 2017

Aviation Teen Start-Up is an innovation camp for 11 to 18 year olds, run during the July school holidays. With a focus on aerospace innovation, it encourages students to invent, explore and experiment and let their ideas take flight!

Over three fun-filled days, students are taken through the innovation development process from idea to execution. Students work together in teams to come up with an idea for a product or service that they believe provides a solution to a problem their generation will face in the future. The event concludes with the students pitching their concepts to a panel of judges.

There will also be behind-the-scenes tours of Canberra Airport, and fun, interactive activities that teach 21st Century skills.

Walking Tour and ‘Behind the Scenes’ at Canberra Airport

The ‘Behind the Scenes tour’ has been developed to educate students about the aviation industry and the important functions of an airport with a focus on areas such as employment, transport, history and its role in the community. Students will have the opportunity to go on a tour guided by the airport management team. They will have to navigate their way through the terminal following the passenger experience from check-in through to security. Some of the highlights of the tour include:

  • Exploring back-of-house functions such as the loading dock
  • Visiting the new International Lounge – including the new screening points and sterile areas
  • Engage with state-of-the-art Augmented Reality
  • A visit to Canberra Helicopters hanger where they will get to see inside a helicopter and tour the facilities with one of the pilots

The students not only get a hands-on experience but will have the opportunity to meet and talk to a variety of people working at the Airport and engaged in the aviation industry. On Day 3, Canberra Airport will also host a BBQ for all the students.
